We have been following the legacy named Dr. Jaidev Singh Retola who has made India proud, moreover, his achievements have made the citizens of Himachal proud. Himachal Pradesh is a very small, hilly state of India and because there aren't enough opportunities for the youngsters to try different, it only makes sense that we talk about those who have been living their life full of acknowledgements. We have shared before that Dr Jaidev Singh Retola is a real life hero. He is man of extreme excellence and his cabinets full of awards and trophies justify our claim. He was born on April 1 1947 and very lightly he says, my school friends and many others used to tease me for the April 1 Fools Day connection. His village Sheel in Tehsil Rohru, District Shimla of Himachal Pradesh wasn't just like any other rural village. The school days were awful, as he had to travel more than 10km by foot everyday and those were very harsh conditions. The downhill and sudden steep uphill trail led him to his school.
He was always a very bright student during his school days. All the awards were bagged by him and it was difficult for other students to beat his scores. His mindblowing abilities were also appreciated by his teachers and his father, who also happens to be a man of historic past, Babu Amar Nath Singh Retola, decided that he wanted his son to be a doctor. "It was all about helping people and there's no better way to help people than being a doctor, Dr Retola remembers these inspirational words of his father.
The school days were over and he had his eyes set on being a doctor and for this, his father decided it was good for his son to move out of Himachal. It was Vikram University in Ujjain (Govt, Degree College Ratlam), where he completed his B.Sc. The next stop was Madhya Pradesh. He got his MBBS done from G.M.C Bhopal University, M.P. This was the time when Dr Retola thought about politics but, thanks to an intervention done by his father, the political dream was short lived. However, he had a major role to play in the Madhya Pradesh political scenario when he along with his university friends, helped to end the political turmoil of the state. Following his medical science studies, he completed a short course in Civil Defence for Doctors from Civil Defence College, Nagpur. He was the only doctor trined from Bangalore in Plague Survellience and Control work in Himachal Pradesh in the year 1984-85.
Stick around as we bring his service history next time and, we will also be sharing his list of awards and achievements (with more than 3 dozen National and International awards). There is a very special case of mysterious treatment of 800 girls carried out by Dr Retola. this wasn't a normal medical case, thus, it needs special acknowledgement.
